After last year’s electric halftime show performed by Katy Perry and her infamous sharks, rumors about who will headline this year’s show have already started swirling. Many are calling for a repeat performance by Bruno Mars, which would be marked as the first repeat performance in Super Bowl history, while others are banking on pop queen Taylor Swift performing.
Unlike most performances, the halftime show is as much a visual spectacle as it is about the music. Here’s a list of some of our top choices for the show.
Taylor Swift
No one has the current star power of Taylor Swift, and there’s no doubt that a performance by Queen Taylor would inspire many teenage girls to buy Super Bowl tickets. However, with live shows often called lackluster by critics, it’s unclear if she could live up to past, high octane halftime performances.
Kanye West
Fresh of his presidential announcement at the VMAs, the 50th Super Bowl would be a great time for Yeezus to perform some songs from his upcoming album, “SWISH.” There’s no doubt that Kanye has a flair for theatrics and with hip-hop’s growing relevance in pop culture, he would make a perfect choice for the show. Let’s just hope he doesn’t turn it into a 20 minute long speech.
Diplo and Friends
While extremely unlikely, critically acclaimed producer Diplo, his team at Mad Decent and his DJ friends signed to other labels would make for an incredible Super Bowl performance. Producers have created this year’s hottest singles and a half time show performance could feature amazing guest vocalists including Lorde, Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande and many more. This halftime show won’t happen any time soon, but the anticipation has already begun.
